What is Computer Science? Computer Science as defined by dictionary.com is the science that deals with the theory and methods of processing information in digital computers, the design of computer hardware and software, and applications of computer. That was somewhat my definition when I heard of the word.
I thought that it might be an interesting subject. I applied and am now studying computer science at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology. At the Papua New Guinea University of Technology, computer science is divided into five categories: Programming, Software Engineering, Database, Computer Hardware, and Networking.
Turns out I love the course, especially programming. I enjoy telling the computer to do what I want.
Database is also fun. The relationships between entities are complex and sometimes difficult to understand. But that is the beauty of it all.
To networking. I saw people boasting on facebook that they could hack. Okay. Personally, I don't think they even know even a tiny bit of what they are doing. I think of Hackers as the elite. The best at programing, database and networking. I have a saying, "If you aren't using your own software, then you aren't a hacker."
I don't really like Computer hardware. It kind of freaks me out. Maybe after studying Electrical Engineering, it won't be so bad.
All in all, I'm glad I opted to study Computer Science.
