National News: Baby among crash victims

BABY girl and two women died in a horrific car accident yesterday in Madang town’s south coast road, police say.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said police arrived at the scene and confirmed the accident yesterday afternoon.
He said the casualties were taken to Modilon Hospital by other PMV buses travelling along the same route.
Supt Rubiang said the crew and the driver fled the scene when police arrived.
“Police are now investigating the matter,” he said.
“The vehicle owner, crew and the driver must report to the police and explain why and how the accident happened.
“It is not the first time such accidents have happened.”
Supt Rubiang said traffic offences were happening in the province on a daily basis.
“Owners of vehicles and drivers have a duty to ensure vehicles were roadworthy, passengers and pedestrians also need take responsibility to identify faults in vehicles and report them to the authorities,” he said.
Supt Rubiang said vehicle owners and drivers in Madang were still ignoring traffic rules even when they were arrested and charged.
He said the people needed to take responsibility now.
