MADANG police have arrested two men and seized a hand grenade on Wednesday, commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang says.“Police had to call in soldiers from their engineering battalion to help retrieve and inspect the hand grenade for safety,” he added.
Supt Rubiang said the man who had the hand grenade was drunk and was threatening his neighbour that he would kill them all if he remove the pin.
“Police responded quickly and found the explosive in his possession which was wrapped in a piece of cloth.
Policemen then interrogated him and he admitted that a man brought it from East Sepik and gave it to him. “The man who brought the hand grenade was also arrested the same day and both were taken to the police station held in a lockup.
“Two bombs were also recovered at Kranget Market near Madang Resort.
“It looks like there are more of that in the town,” he added.
“Bomb specialists or people dealing with explosives should use equipment to detect explosives and remove them in Madang before an explosion occurs and injure or kill innocent people,” he added.
Early this year, four live explosives were found near Madang Club and were removed by the Papua New Guinea Defence Force bomb specialists who disposed the explosives in the sea.
