TechTalk: How To Vertically Snap Windows on a Portrait PC Monitor

First appeared at  Medium.com Introducing FancyZones, customizable window panes It’s the little things in life that bring a smile to your face. I’ve been window snapping left and right to increase my productivity for as long as I can remember. My dual 29" monitors were always nice and evenly divided; rearranging them was a snap — pun intended. But it wasn’t until I decided to rotate my left monitor to portrait mode that dark days descended. If you’ve clicked this article and you’ve made it this far, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. When I dragged my email window to the top, it covered the whole portrait screen and nothing happened when I tried dragging Spotify to the bottom. My heart was sunk. I scoured Google for answers, but instead found bunch of people with the same problem. Sidebar: searching for “window snapping on Windows 10” is just keyword soup… it was a nightmare. I’d been using a deprecated tool called WinSplit Revolution as a stopgap until I recently ...

Politics: Reserved Seats for Women

By Wallace White originally posted on Facebook  No doubt most of you haven't heard, the PNG Government is proposing the creation of 5 regional seats reserved for women. NGI, Momase, Highlands East Papua and West Papua. To address so-called women's issues. 1. Someone needs to specify exactly what are "women's issues"? And why the current MPs (who are supposed to represent everyone) incapable of dealing with them?  When a house doesn't have a mother the father usually plays both the father/mother role and vice versa. So why can't you guys? Isn't this an admission that they themselves have failed and are incapable and incompetent in their responsibilities of serving half the electorate? Of taking care of their daughters? 2. We had 3 women in the last parliament. They all failed miserably and were voted out. The electorate is not as sexist you think. Give the PNG people more credit than that. Our people are not stupid. These ladies allied with the corrupt ...

How to download and use Microsoft Word for free

Microsoft Word is the most well-known word processing application on the planet. For decades, it has been a staple of both home and enterprise use. It has also been hidden behind a paywall most of that time.  Things are a little different in the present climate, though. Not everyone needs the full power of Microsoft Word, and with online alternatives like Google Docs available to use for free, paying up doesn’t make as much sense as it once did.  The good news is that you can now use Microsoft Word for free. While you’re more limited on its scope, there’s no longer any requirement to buy a copy or sign up for Microsoft 365 to use Microsoft Word. How to use Microsoft Word for free on Windows 10, Mac, Chrome OS, and Linux The easiest way to use Microsoft Word for free is right in your web browser. Whether you’re on Windows 10, Mac, Chrome OS, or Linux, using Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, or any other major browser, you can access a free-to-use version of Microsoft...

The unfortunate Lucy Maino controversy

By Avdoh D Meki originally posted on PNG Attitude PORT MORESBY - Lucy Maino is best known as a Papua New Guinean footballer and recently Miss Pacific and PNG 2019-20. Because of Covid, her tenure was extended into 2021 but she was released from duties by the MPIP governing body earlier this month after a video she posted on TikTok triggered a social media storm. The official explanation for her standing down was that the committee said it had reached an “amicable decision” with Ms Maino to end her duties. Ms Maino denied the Miss PNG title was taken from her. “In agreement with the pageant committee, I completed my service as Miss PNG,” she stated. Ms Maino, 25, is an outstanding Papua New Guinean woman. She is a footballer who in addition to playing college football in the USA since 2014 has represented PNG in the Pacific Games since women's football was introduced in 2016. The TikTok video that Ms Maino released on her private TikTok account was not her first or only TikTok dance...

Most People Have No Real Friends

If you needed a ride to the airport, whom would you call? by Tracy Folly Originally posted at https://medium.com/traceys-folly/most-people-have-no-real-friends-c99fa4f7d57f If you needed a ride to the airport, whom would you call? A friend? A family member? A trusted neighbor? You’re lucky. Do you want to know who I’d call? A taxi. Or I’d pick up my phone and order an Uber driver or a Lyft driver on an app like I was ordering a pizza. The last time I needed a ride, I put my life in the hands of a virtual stranger. The driver could have been a madman, or on drugs, or a criminal, or drunk. I just don’t know. But I didn’t have a choice. I don’t have the kind of true friends I can just call when I need a ride. In fact, most people don’t really have any true friends to help them out when needed. Social media connects us to all sorts of people with whom we can touch base and even share valuable information from time to time, but it’s not the same as having a true friend that you can call on ...

Tales of Somare: An old man loses a friend

Tales of Somare: THE SANA OF MELANESIA

THE SANA OF MELANESIA - When Giants Walked Among Men   Originally posted by Menom Barok on Facebook Giants rise, to provide balance when our societies swivel. These are  a unique set of a grand, masterpiece design by Melanesia's Collective Consciousness. They are the judges ordained by the bio-cosmic rays of celestral supremacy. These Giants were not big in physique, but big in heart. They don't carry around big heads, but big intellect; they don't have big eyes, but they have big visions. Societies called  them by different names, Chosen Ones, Messiahs, Buddhas: Melanesia calls them SANA; they are the Grand Chiefs & Supreme Councils; they are the frontliners who acted as shields against the monsters we created - our own stupidity, ignorance & greed. These are the SANAs that fought different battles during different time dimensions. SOMARE is a SANA, & SANAs are immortal through the Melanesian Gene. As long as we hosted the burning flag of Melanesia, the SANA...

The Bottom Line

THE BOTTOM LINE We all are trying to factorise points and weigh out positives and negatives to decide where Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare has to be buried for maximum benefit for us all. We are forgetting the bottom line here. The bottom line is what the will of the Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare was. Whether it's in the middle of the desert or in the middle of the deep jungle. It's his will for goodness sake!!! Why the hell is everyone just opening their mouth?? We're only over complicating things. Doesn't matter what's happened before or what's going to happen in the future. Anyone setting their own will and last wishes know what they want. It's their own Godgiven body for goodness sake. Who are we to oppose their rightful choice? We are only setting a bad precedence to weaken the power of the will of a deceased person. What is this?? Even more so for a chief, a chief must always have his last wish. The Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare's will has to be...

A Humble Leader

“I was working at PNGBC Kavieng as the customer service officer, when an elderly gentlemen came to the counter, asking to cash his cheque. This happened in 1996/7.  He presented his cheque and upon seeing the amount I advised him to sign on the back of the cheque. I then, advised him that I would get my bank manager to sign with me and "would he please go and join the line, until the bank teller called him to collect his cash." He graciously said, "Yes." With a big smile on his face (he was actually beaming), he went and stood in line.  I took the cheque and went to get my managers signature of approval. The manager upon seeing the signature on the cheque asked me, "Who brought this cheque in? And did he sign it in front of you?" I pointed to the gentlemen in the line and said, "Yes, he signed in front of me." The manager then asked, "Do you know who he is?" I replied, "No. Should I?" He proceeded to sign the cheque and then, ...

Telecoms: ePSK - Multiple Pre-Shared Keys

Originally posted on the Cambium Community Networks Just in case you missed it cnMaestro Version 2.2.1 (Cloud and On-Premise), brings us a great new feature called ePSK. If you’re not familiar with ePSK it’s maybe because Cambium are too modest to toot their own trumpet so I’m going to do it for them. In short ePSK gives each user a unique PSK (pre-shared key) when using WPA2-Personal, for me to explain why this is such a useful feature let me first explain the problem with using a shared PSK across the whole WLAN. When a wireless client connects to an AP it completes a 4-Way handshake, this generates the encryption keys used to encrypt wireless traffic. For the 4-way handshake to work it is a requirement that both the client and AP know the passphrase, however the passphrase is never transmitted over the air thereby making this exchange reasonably secure. But what happens when a 3rd party already knows the passphrase? It means they just need to capture the 4-way handshake to gener...

My Musings: Gladiator (2000) movie

Yesterday, I watched Gladiator, released in 2000, starring Russel Crow , Joaquin Pheonix and Connie Nielson Sad to say it was my first time to watch such an incredible and old movie. The plot was predictable at first when Commodus murdered his father and then the story continues.  You could almost see the evil in Commodus' eyes when he first appeared on the scene. His demeanor, his gait, his stance all reeked of someone who was disturbed. As the movie unfolded, it became clear: he sought a love that was not bestowed upon him as he desired. I know its all a movie and stuff but an important lesson drawn from this is that parental duties comes before all else. Marcus was out winning wars and his son was neglected. Commodus lacked an accessible role male model to look up to guide him in the ways of life. Perhaps he had, but his father could not be replaced. Fathers, be present for your sons.

Multimedia: Sound mixing

On my way to work this morning, I heard on the Radio, Raude by Black Rose of New Caledonia. It's been a while since I've heard that song in full.  It was an intriguing experience since I had a little experience in sound and mixing. It was a masterpiece, in my opinion. On the little speakers I was listening to, the drums clear and had presence. I felt the beat. It wasn't too much that it killed the speaker and it wasn't too little that was drowned out by the instruments.  The good sound may also have been due to the quality of the sound file played. I'm pretty sure that Legend FM was playing the song at 128kbps or more.  In retrospect, most of the new artists in PNG are very creative but they miss out on the technical aspects that makes the experience immersive. I hope they realize this sooner reach out to Technical Creatives to enhance their audiences experiences.
